The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that it will examine Reliance Jio’s Happy New Offer. The telecom regulator’s statement comes just hours after Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that the new Jio Happy New Year Offer will extend to March 31, 2017 all the voice, data, messaging, and other services made free by the company under its introductory Jio Welcome Offer.
Reliance Jio’s Happy New Year Offer will be activated on January 1, 2017, a day after the Jio Welcome Offer – that also provides all voice calls, data and apps free to existing Jio customers – ends.
“We will look into it. Every tariff that is filed before us is examined. We will come up with our response at appropriate time,” Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman RS Sharma told PTI when asked about validity of Jio’s offer. TRAI had previously allowed Reliance Jio to provide free services for customers who subscribed to its services till December 3 under the Reliance Jio Welcome Offer until the end of this year.
At the Reliance Jio Happy New Year Offer announcement, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said, “Starting 4th of December, 2016, every new Jio user will get Jio’s data, voice, video and the full bouquet of Jio applications and content, absolutely free, till 31st March 2017. We are calling this the Jio Happy New Year Offer.”
“All our 52 million plus Jio Welcome Offer users will continue to enjoy the unlimited benefits of Jio Welcome Offer till 31st December, 2016,” Ambani added.
“And on New Year’s Day, all Jio Welcome Offer users will be automatically signed-up for the Jio Happy New Year Offer as well.”
The Jio Happy New Year Offer is identical to the Reliance Jio Welcome Offer but comes with a lower daily FUP limit for data. Under the Reliance Jio Happy New Year Offer, customers will have 1GB of high-speed data, after which the Internet speed will slow down. This daily limit was 4GB under the Welcome Offer.
